KIRKUS REVIEW

This heap of recycled slapdashery finds flexible Stein in a macho mood and an Eric Ambler mode. Freelance engineer Matt Erridge is framed and jailed in an unnamed sheikdom, entrusted with code messages, and delivered to Athens, where nobody believes his sad story--until the shooting commences and the obligatory assassination plot struggles to the surface. Lots of lice and sweat, a beauteous IRA-ette, and a smart-ass narrator-hero who refers to himself in the third person and deserves all the implausible misfortunes he gets.
