An incontinently plotted story taking place in the desolate reaches of New England -- no friendly Howard Johnson aqua blue cupola in sight but many cliffs to hang from, caverus and a Viking tower. Naomi goes there as (of course) tittle governess to a child whose mother was not only crippled by polio but has since become psychotic -- murderously so. In spite of her afflictions, she escapes from a sanatorium to kill her husband and her child with the bowstring and arrows she shoots as straight as Diana. If all of this falls to earth we know not where, it's not from trying. The author (who seems to be a man) writes more sensibly than this unswallowable story assumes or the form demands.
