WINTER'S TALES 8

The eighth collection of this British short story annual shows again a discernment of selection and distinction of representation and the majority of the names included will invite an American audience: L.P. Hartley, Edna O'Brien, Frank O'Connor, William Sansom, Anne Piper and Christine Brooke-Rose all of whom have had one or more appearances here either in the shorter or the longer form. Newcomers include Robert Culff and Jean Stubbs and both are promosing. The collection as a whole offers more than occasional pleasure.
