KIRKUS REVIEW

In the days of Eugene Field in St. Jo., Missouri, lived a lively and utterly lovable colored boy by the name of Jefferson Davis Hickman. This book is full of charm, humor and understanding but the best parts are about the poet and his French poodle. If children find the dialect easy enough to read they will have much pleasure out of Jeff and his experiences.
