A second hard bitten, hard pressed action story conducts its tour of duty in present day Germany where the fumes of Auschwitz have not cleared (certainly not for agent Quiller with an unforgiving memory) and where re-Nazification again threatens world domination and doom. Hooked by his hatred of Zossen, and the death of a friend, Quiller agrees to try and locate and isolate an organization Phonix in which the archetypal Nazis are operative; with him, or is she? is Inge Lindt, a defector, with her (love) sick attachment to the Fuhrer. Quiller, who insists on traveling light (without a gun) and alone (no cover, no contacts) is in and out of the enemy hands; subjected to a session of narcoanalysis in which he is first drugged, later dropped in the river; and finally manages to complete his mission..... Jawohl this is all inordinately intricate, but for those who do not stop to pause or wonder, there's a lot of groggy activity.
