BEEKEEPING FOR PROFIT AND PLEASURE by Addison Webb

BEEKEEPING FOR PROFIT AND PLEASURE

By

Publisher: Macmillan

If bees have chosen choice corners of one's private domain in which to swarm, unbidden, anything dealing with bees has special interest, and is closely scanned in hopes of finding some simple recipe for sending bees away (as well as attracting them into proper hives, and away from cracks and crannies of the clapboards). Addison Webb's book almost persuaded me to accept my fate with a smile and set up the visiting swarm, this year, in proper style housekeeping....This is the most complete exposition of (a) those facts about the bees, their kinds, their habits, that are essential if one should turn to beekeepin; (b) step by step facts about proper conditions under which beekeeping might be indulged in profitably, -- kinds of hives, preparation, securing of bees, care and nurture, safeguarding oneself against harm when caring for the hives, taking the honey, wintering the bees, and so on. Details of marketing alone are neglected, in spite of the suggestion in the title that this is a rounded picture of a commercial venture.
