A handy guide for the harried parent with full or part-time kids that's a cut above the usual trendy cookbook nonsense. Shell and Reynolds are short on recipes and long on planning advice: chop onions, boil potatoes, and peel carrots for the whole week, or roast a leg of lamb on Monday for Tuesday's stew and Wednesday's sandwiches -- being careful that it not look or taste like left-overs. Whoever gets custody should put one child in charge of each aspect of shopping (e.g. vegetables, staples, etc.) in which they become the resident expert in getting the best values. The food itself is wholesome (convenience foods are kept to a minimum) and quickly prepared with an eye to quick clean-up too -- so kids on their weekly visit can spend more time with Dad or Mom. Advice on rearranging the kitchen is a bit simpleminded (store knives near the chopping board), but will help the ditherers among the divorced and separated. A slim, well-thought out volume.
