Since no one would argue the point that diet promotes good health, the obverse would automatically seem to be valid-- that diet can cure many diseases and correct conditions. Adelle Davis, who has been actively working in this field for over thirty years, discusses nutrition as a supplement and complement to medicine; she also views most conditions in terms of the stress situations they create and prescribes minerals, vitamins and trace elements as alleviative or curative measures. Her various regimens are applied to almost every failing to which the flesh is heir-- from allergies, arthritis, infections, to heart disease, ulcers, diabetes, liver, gout, etc. etc. and most of the systems- nervous, reproductive, etc. and even cancer. Although the book has a foreword by one professional, Dr. Joseph Risser, one can certainly wonder whether many others will not feel that she is overstepping in diagnosing the cause of certain diseases which doctors consider unknown and recommending a cure, based on diet, when medication is imperatively indicated.
