It's Wassail all at Caprilands, a home in Connecticut where the author and her family celebrate the Christmas season with a series of parties and home decorations. Tree trimmings, herbal wreaths, homemade gifts, legends, and recipes offer readers a riot of greenery and tradition. Every room has its petits tableaux and the house is full of variously trimmed trees. There are parties honoring the Norse Hertha and Huldah, Sts. Barbara, Lucy and Nicholas. And there is Christmas Reveillon, New Year's Day, and Epiphany. For every party an exhilarating fruity punch sparks the event, and one wonders how many garlanded guests have staggered forth in the wee hours and wound up in the bird feeding wheel. For a Noel a bit more joyeux than usual.
