This book by the small daughters of Lin Yutang should have just as good a chance as the Abbe children's book. This is thoroughly entertaining though less sophisticated, and the children seem (to me) more interesting than the Abbes. They describe their parents, each other, family activities, places they've visited, likes and dislikes, school, theatres, stories they have heard, things they love about China, the problems Father presents and Mother solves. The text is unedited and has the original spelling. The picture of the parents through children's eyes is quite enlightening, and their view of the world about them is sometimes precocious, always refreshing. The two girls contribute random pieces and the youngest, Mei, is the official footnoter. Illustrated with sketches by the authors. Introduction by Pearl Buck. With such a launching -- and their father's fame, the book should go.
