Admiral Morison, official U.S. Navy historian, who has given us his huge and monumental history of the USN in World War II, now compresses his wealth of information into one impressive volume for a very wide American audience. In his erse, readable style he tells of how the U.S. Navy was built up under Roosevelt, how it was partially crushed at Pearl Harbor, yet how it rose again swiftly to conduct a gallant, brilliant and eventually victorious full scale war on both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.
