The tie to childhood is in most cases a bond of self-centered fantasy. So it is with Carol, who lives so much in a world of dreams that when faced with reality she is unable either to evaluate it or comply with its demands. In this story of Carol's first year as a career girl, she not only suffers the pangs of an unrequited love, --Carol is infatuated with her boss, an X-Ray technician--she finds herself unable to cope with a strained situation involving a somewhat unstable half brother. Carol's victory over her own self-indulgence and her ability to see things as they are form the core of this somewhat routine and monotonous teen-aged story.
