THE DIAMOND CUTTERS by Adrienne Cecile Rich

THE DIAMOND CUTTERS

By

Publisher: Harper

This is the second volume of poetry by a writer whose first book- A Change of World- had an extraordinary send-off from other poets, among them Auden, Viereck and Kreymborg. Again, this discloses a very fine ear, taste and technical dexterity. Miss Rich writes with clarity, precision and perception on subjects which- while ostensibly familiar and commonplace for the most part- are shot through with subtle metaphysical overtones. The remarkable quality of this poetry is its maturity; its main fault is a lack of exuberance. A puritan conscience and a high intellectualism key the mood. Many of these poems have appeared in the New Yorker, the Atlantic Monthly, etc. and it is a distinguished presentation.
