KIRKUS REVIEW

Vera Dellmer is poised on the shores, ""the beginning of mental twilight."" The puzzle for the reader is to determine how far gone she already is. It's an ingeniously clever plot. Vera, now keeping this journal, was supposedly driven to madness after her mother hanged herself before being executed for the murder of Vera's stepfather. Vera was at the scene of the crime and is driven not to reveal its secrets to her husband, an eminent psychiatrist who has made Vera his life's work. In the meantime there are anonymous notes and attempts on her life. An enigmatic, psychological striptease with a surprising denouement.
