HIDE-AND-SEEK IN THE YELLOW HOUSE

Energetic illustrations in bright, sophisticated colors accompany a spare text describing a mother cat's search for her kitten--alternately missing or found in typical activities. The peekaboo set should be delighted with the repeated disappearances and discoveries, the bold color contrasts, the adroitly simplified, evocative visual images, and the satisfying conclusion: captured at last, ""Mack"" gets a bath. The jacket reports that ""Agatha Rose is the pseudonym of a distinguished author and artist,"" but the spare, carefully crafted text here doesn't offer much of a clue to her identity.
