ONCE UPON A TIME

By

Publisher: Nelson

Subtitled as folk tales, myths and legends of the United Nations -- a rather odd basis of choice in these liberal days when folk tales of all nations are the property of all nations. However, as one goes over the contents of this volume, one realizes that the editor has chosen so much that is unhackneyed that it may be we have overworked the German sources of our fairy tales, and need this fresh viewpoint. Assyri India, the Slav countries, Egypt, Greece, the South Pacific, Scandinavia, England, France, Spain (United Nations?), China, Latin America, Alaska, etc. Well done -- let's forget any limitations as to sources, and great the volume as a fresh contribution to the field. The stories are retold for eight and nine year olds.
