Here's a book you may have to sell, as the interest in Finland is fairly academic, and customers should be told how far from academic Miss Rothery makes it in this delightful book. Perhaps because Finland was an unexplored country to me, I found this even better reading than her memorable book on Sweden, to which this is a companion volume. One feels and sees and senses the country and the people; one gets a glimpse behind the scenes into natural characteristics that have made this small nation able to establish and sustain her identity and integrity. The towns -- the agricultural and forest sections -- the sea coast and islands -- the Arctic regions -- the social and economic and industrial aspects of the country -- the artistic and creative forces -- it's superbly done, and makes very good home travel reading.
