Strange that there should be two books so closely related in subject and title, both scheduled for September publication (Roundabout South America by Anne Merriman peck -- see page 375). The other book is intended for teen age; this for younger readers. In spite of Agnes Rothery's experience in writing of other countries, she has somewhow -- for me at least -- failed to convey a warm and intimate feeling of these South American countries, which she knows by first hand experience over a period of several years. Here is a more finished style, but it lacks the intimate, personal feel that Anne Peck succeeds in sharing with her readers. This is almost coldly objective and impersonal. It reads like a first rate geographical study of our Latin American neighbors, and should fit into supplementary reading on that score.
