There will probably be any number of slim little books built on isolated incidents of the war -- or the home front -- and intended as thought provoking or comforting. This story tells of how one mother, whose life seems meaningless to her and her husband when news came of the loss of an only son, found comfort straight from her boy in reading his notations on Browning's Pheidippides' closing lines, -- ""Maybe you've got something there, old boy"". She felt that he was telling her that to some had been given the greater, swifter gift of eternal youth, rather than the slow-running years.
