Sub-titled ""how to reach the top in the business world"" -- this promises to be a blueprint for the business woman who has the chance of a century to seize opportunities never before opened to women. In a sense, the timing seems wrong -- for the fact is obvious -- the opportunities there for the taking. It should, however, serve another purpose, to help women face the situation intelligently, so that they can weigh the possibilities of the various fields, and make the most of it. With the promised Essandes backing, this book should sell widely, on several counts:- (1) it is a sound book; (2) it is a legitimate self help book; (3) the advice is good, the presentation essentially readable; (4) it covers a broad range, from novice to experienced business woman. The author has had wide experience in hiring, firing and training; she is Director of Research Bureau of the Encyclopedia Britannica, she knows her stuff. For the novice, she outlines 19 basic jobs, shows how they may be used as stepping stones, offers the beginner a five year plan and 29 ""musts"" on office decorum. The second part of the text is keyed to the needs of the experienced business woman. In it she gives suggestions for coping with competition from men, recognizing insurmountable prejudices, play-by-play strategy for getting ahead. Her keen and witty analysis of male executives will be readily recognizable (will the men relish it?). Down-to-earth rules pointing to success.
