A reasonable, balanced overview of Hindu tantra and its contributions to Indian culture, especially valuable for the numerous unusual illustrations of tantric art, as well as the generally succinct and accurate introductory remarks about various aspects of the ""Tantric way."" Commendably, the sexual aspects traditional to some Tantric practices are neither overemphasized nor ignored. What is not made clear overall is that many of the principles of Buddhist tantra are quite different from the Hindu principles presented here. Still, an excellent presentation of this major current in Indian life and thought.
