A strange book, sometimes incoherent, with interpolations of anecdotes, philosophy, searchings into men's sould. A small freighter and six men on a voyage from Norway to Iceland, receive news of the outbreak of the war in 1914, and they face the changing of all their lives. The ship encounters storm --there are quarrels on board -- the illness of the captain holds them overlong in port -- one character affects all the others and a girl in port is thrust into all their lives, in one way or another, increasing the tension, which reaches boiling point with the news of the war, Brutal at times; poetic at times; distinctive in power and analysis. Market -- those who liked The Anointed.
