Eleven short stories about Indians, fur and agin, by the old and reliable anthology team -- Regil. Kerry Wood, Kroll and others. Although there is an enticing variety of subject matter, the writing has not been as well coordinated for this reading level as the others in the series. The style in some stories is difficult and almost pompous. But there are plenty of Indians and cowboys --a crafty Indian chief who devises a proper mental torture for a fur thief; Kit Carson, the Navajos' enemy and later friend; an Indian boy who hunted his family through the wilds; a messenger who outwitted Crazy Horse; a fiddler who charmed savage Indians with his music; an Indian boy who lived two years with buffalo cows as foster mothers; and Indians and whites who made friends.
