MOTORCYCLES: A Buyer's and Rider's Guide

Griffin, a biker himself, provides straight, readable information on the motorcycle boom (sales hit a million last year); the reasons (lure of the open road, transportation economy); industry history (there is a Soichiro Honda but it was the English and not the Japanese who knocked the Americans out of manufacturing competition); bike types and makes with machine and price data for each and ""best of class"" ratings; how to operate the thing without becoming a blot on the road (N.B., Griffin once almost killed himself by forgetting the clutch is always on the left); consumer tips on accessories (despite the Hell's Angels image, stay with leather); insurance rates, financing, and dealer services. This saddlebagful of essentials is supplemented with appended lists of motorcycle clubs, national publications, manufacturers, state laws, competition speed records, and outlaw gangs (whose names are enough to make you clutch on the right -- the Boot Cripplers, the Drive Chain Gang, the Kactus Klan Kadets, the Scooter Looters). Easy riders, however, will find this the best general guide on the market today.
