THE EDDIE MATHEWS STORY

Companion piece to The Jackie Jensen Story -- and due to take its place on the list of sound background books on Big League figures as a warm story of the hardworking, hard-hitting Mathews, all-star third baseman for the Milwaukee Braves. View it as a true story of a small-town boy with close family ties who makes the Big League ranks, who matures under the glare of the limelight, and who experiences that tumultuous reception of the Braves into Milwaukee. But even Hirshberg cannot make Mathews very dramatic- not with the sensational Hank Aaron overshadowing the quiet plugger. Perhaps the next book will be on Hank Aaron. The Mathews' story has special regional value.
