CAST OF CHARACTERS

The lobby of Grauman's Chinese where Confederate Gray is to be premiered serves as a continuity for some telltale profiles of a few who worked on this film, and these assorted short subjects add up to a less flattering full feature of The Industry. Appearing briefly before the microphone are Otto Freund, a Teutonic Cecil B., who from discovering and developing talent now sinks to pimping women; Mary Harwell, a susceptible fan from Indiana; Buddy Tyler who caps his career as a star with the purchase of a prizefighter whom he enters in a fight he can't win; Porter Judson, a director, who refuses to redeem the emptiness of the last years of his once famous father; Pop Reitman, a film editor, who achieves a private retaliation against a star when he plants laughs in the preview audience so as to be able to cut her out of the film; etc., etc. Perhaps not as ruthless as The Great an, and the typecasting may not be as recognizable either, but it again offers a bright to brutal form of entertainment.
