ANCHOR IN THE SEA: An Anthology of Psychological Fiction

The subtitle rather vaguely applies to a dozen or so short stories, authored by names not too familiar to those not versed in psychological fiction, many of them younger writers, many belonging to the esoteric school. These include John Berryman, whose The Imaginary Jew has already appeared in an annual; Kay Boyle, Meridel Le Sueur, Jean Garrique, David Cornel do Jong, Delmore Schwartz, Jean Stafford, Jessamyn West, and Janet Lewis The Wife of Martin Guerre/last and longest inclusion. This particular story appeared some years ago in a limited edition, and still holds a definite fascination.... A contemporary collection of considerable interest, though the angle defined in the anthology is elusive.
