GOOD WRITING by Alan H. Vrooman

GOOD WRITING

By

Pub Date: Sept. 20th, 1967
Publisher: Atheneum

A direct, classical presentation of the elements of the writing style, at once pertinent and unobtrusive in its own form. Mr. Vrooman has been teaching English at Exeter since 1937 and gives evidence of knowing his students. While useful for anyone, his book is particularly geared, in the content of its examples to the (square) high school student. So is his advice. On punctuation: ""Think what the reader must know before he can understand your meaning""; on diction, ""Don't be curious: reach for the dictionary."" Full discussion of both; full marks for Mr. Vrooman.
