There are many who feel that the old Irish legends are, too, a part of the heritage we require. Here the author of Dernot of the Bright Weapons has taken the story of Deidre and retold it for younger readers. Her fate was foretold her father before her birth; she would wreck Cuchelain and the sons of Usnech by her beauty, and bring sorrow to all. This is the story of how that prophecy was born out. It is a tragic story; I wonder whether young people will relish it?
