A heterogeneous collection of memos assembled over a number of years in which Elnstein has jotted down, under proper headings, his opinions on everything from pacifism and politics to children in Japan. When he discusses relativity or explains how Flettnership works, he is in his element; when he comments on G.B.S. he is not interesting nor authoritative, merely thankful. Truth, goodness, and beauty are the important things in his life. He has a deep sense of obligation. But the book is so diffuse that it is hard reading.
