KIRKUS REVIEW

A meager representation from the '20's, and growing portfolios from the subsequent years through the '60's to date, follow the faces seen in theatre during this time. Hirschfeld's front page drawings in the Sunday drama section of The New York Times with their bold, whirly lines have become a familiar feature and this collection emphasizes his effective qualities of caricature and criticism. The titles and dates of the productions are given as well as the names of the performers; there is an introduction by Brooks Atkinson and prefaces by Hirschfeld for each decade. For perennial theatregoers this would be a special gift.
