THE UNDERGROUND STREAMS

The motor industry labor problems in Detroit as the fabric against which the patterns of various lives are worked out in a restricted cast of characters and time schedule. There are good dramatic moments, good contrast between fanatic intolerance and a wider vision, sympathy and humane ideas of the Communist Party --propaganda, but handled with warmth and vigor. The central figure, Princey, Party member, has had a safe four years as agent provocateur. He grows careless -- and is kidnapped. An official of the Iron Guard (a Fascist organization) tempts him with promises for the empire he plans -- Princey refuses -- and the Iron Guard is called in to finish him off. It is a revealing story,built around conflicting currents in American industry.
