KIRKUS REVIEW

The use of alcohol is a serious personal matter, to be considered carefully and objectively in order that we may escape disaster."" Dr. Terhune, a psychiatrist, treats liquor with the respect due a dangerous weapon; in discussing the safe way to drink, he goes into detail on the unsafe ways as well, from first degree jeopardy through alcohol dependency to alcoholism. He delineates groups of individuals who are alcohol-prone, probes physiological and psychological factors. A strictly limited intake, not on ""cue,"" a balanced daily regimen, a moderate, simplified life comprise his safe set-up. This makes a good case for cutting down, or out.
