Then came Jim, and new rapture, short lived and leaving but one choice, that she become one of the Squire's Gap women, and so find a way to raise her small son. How she grew beyond the limitations of her environment, how she learned ""to be endurin'"", and how she set her feet on a hard path of making a place for herself and her son in the Meadows from which she had fled, makes one sure that here is a character that lives. The story is told against a rich pattern of mountain people deeply known. I liked it.
