KIRKUS REVIEW

Useful if uninspired titles from ""The American Revolution"" series, which provide chronological narratives with italicized guide words, indexes, simplified maps, and many historical illustrations. Colonies describes the concerns of Loyalists and Patriots in 1770, discusses the familiar Stamp Act, Intolerable Acts, and Boston Tea Party, and concludes with the battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775. Birth begins in 1781 with the Battle of Yorktown and covers the surrender, peace, Articles of Confederation, the Continental Congress and the ratifying of the Constitution. Occasionally marred by effusive prose or unfortunate word choices, this is, nonetheless, serviceable supplemental material.
