KIRKUS REVIEW

There's a surprisingly wide range of interest in fencing, not only through schools and clubs, but through national organizations. Check your local gymnasiums, women's clubs as well as men's, Y's, etc. here is fencing as a sport, art, science, as exercise, character builder, in detailed exposition by a master, Gallico's introduction practically sends you to the foils, and Nadi's preliminary matter, historical and biographical, is an excellent take-off. Then to the science of fencing, -- positions, fundamentals, footwork, parries of attack, the whole rollcall of fencing mechanics, with a special section on combat, exercises, training, competitive matches, advice to teachers. Excellent in its field.
