KIRKUS REVIEW

There have been books with one bit of odd information or another about strange animals, but the only one I can remember that covered most of the ones included here did it piecemeal, a collection of random facts. Here we have the kind of tour of the world of amazing animals, in company with a guide who knows what kinds of things to tell about them, which animals have the oddest characteristics, and how to group them so that we can remember those that lay eggs, those that have pouches for their young, those that work, those that fly, and so on and on. Anecdote, bits of legend, but chiefly straight facts, enticingly told.
