Sidney Franklin, the famous Brooklyn Matador, has translated this Spanish novel of bull fighting, because he feels that it so thoroughly catches the true spirit of the ring, and of the people. There is romance, but it is subordinated in interest to the vigorous picture of the beast that is in the ring and the beast that is the audience. Very foreign in atmosphere, and -- in spite of all the recent books dealing with the subject .. still seems very far from the American viewpoint and conception. A book to sell to those who liked the Hemingway books, Matador, etc.
