SOJOURNER TRUTH: Slave, Abolitionist, Fighter for Women's Rights

Like Ortiz' Sojourner Truth (1974), this is a straight biography, without analysis or comment, of the wandering former slave who preached against slavery and injustice under orders from the Lord. Lindstrom's style is plain, but more readable than Ortiz' stilted memorial. And though Lindstrom incorporates fewer of Sojourner Truth's own eloquent remarks, she does select rousing quotes from the famous ""aren't I a woman?"" speech, with its salty replies to the sexist ministers in the audience. Workaday, but worth considering for the example of Sojourner's spirit.
