THE SONG OF LAZARUS

Volume of collected poems by the author of Power House, a novel. Many of the poems have appeared in Poetry and some English periodicals. This young British writer, doubtless, is gifted, but his sense of things is tragic, perceptive, surrealist and modern -- modern in the sense of being the man of World War II. Despair, disintegration, and the effect of being totally overwhelmed are prominent as in no poet of the pre-war period. A disheartening book, but not a negligible one. For modernists chiefly.
