A WORLD OF VEGETABLE COOKERY

A very good guide to have around, particularly when faced with the unexpected advent of company and two packages of bare beans. There is no distracting chatter as an introduction. Simply skim the contents, find your bean and turn to a handful of simple-to-intricate tours de haricots. After the guests have departed one may pore over Mr. Hawkes' botanical run-down at leisure. The range of vegetables is undoubtedly too wide for those not hung up on akee and chufa, but the supermarket familiars are all there. Formal garden variety; helpful for hosting.
