ORCHIDS: Their Botany Culture & Hybridization

Pub Date: Feb. 15th, 1960
Publisher: Harper

The editor of the Orchid Journal and the Orchid Weekly and a student of orchids since boyhood shares here the wealth of knowledge for the million and a half orchidists the world around. This should be a definitive book, in so far as any book of the sort can be. Useful for the beginner with its concise guidance on housing, care and propagation, for the experienced orchidist, for the historical and geographical background and the detailed treatment of more than 100 genera, for the specialist in the section on the principles and mechanics of hybridization- this should prove of wide value. There will be 180 photographs in black and white and four pages in full color. Botanists- whether orchidists or not- will find the sections dealing with where and how they grow, the plant structure, the flower, the details of culture and propagation of basic interest. Lists- specifically for the beginners- indicate by codes those easily grown, their temperature preferences, etc. The appendix contains a phylogenetical listing of 668 and a glossary of terms.
