A good idea which doesn't quite come off, in spite of attractive presentation. The concept of evolution is certainly of vital interest, and the language is skillfully simplified without being written down. But unfortunately the author has not thought through the subject with sufficient clarity to make a logical, consecutive structure for the 9 to 12 year olds who might first be interested. So it is better to direct it to this older group. Possibly more drastic cutting would have sharpened it for it seems overburdened with detail. However, it is the best book for younger readers on this subject that we have seen. (We wonder, however, why only the male line is indicated on the family tree?) Adult help will be needed in presenting the material and giving it full import.
