FOOTBALL IMMORTALS by Alexander M. Weyand

FOOTBALL IMMORTALS

By

Pub Date: Nov. 19th, 1962

An excellent selection of football stars from the earliest days to the present is presented in short, pungent sketches covering some seventy players from the country over. Large colleges and small are represented, and some of the players went on to greater fame in the professional field. Excitement is created by the reporting of individual games and Weyand has the technique of making the reader a spectator not only of the games themselves but of the specific performance of the ""immortals"". It is interesting to note how- in the early days of football- most of the immortals played for the Ivy League colleges- or the Army or Navy schools, while in recent years they come from the mid west, the far west, the southern colleges. Everyone who reads this will find that some favorite is omitted, but no one will quarrel with the inclusions.
