KIRKUS REVIEW

Dad takes his son, who looks a little old for the three toys he carries along, for a boat ride; one by one, toys and boy end up overboard, happily in tow. Illustrated in a free watercolor style--in contrast to Day's popular Carl books--with rather wooden figures but lovely, sun-dappled water, this slight story also evokes the pleasure of venturing forth with the security of being safe ""as long as you're on a string.
