KIRKUS REVIEW

Another candidate for that dictionary and work book shelf. This is a study of familiar expressions, and is entertainingly done. Sometimes one quarrels with the definitions; sometimes one feels that the editor begs the question, or is ""too nice"" -- but on the whole it is a new sort of dictionary and one that will help answer many arguments as to whence came such and such a slang phrase or saying, now incorporated in modern parlance.
