KIRKUS REVIEW

The Besieger of Cities is Demetrius who tried to pick up the reins of Alexander after the empire burst its political seams. Demetrius is never really happy unless he is engaged in the engineering of devices for breaking into armed and fortified cities. He gave Athens its liberty and they deified him as a Saviour God, a term he barely understood since it was without precedent in Greek theology. However, tragedy hangs like a canopy over the whole bright tale of honest double dealing, for one learns in the prologue that ultimately his projects failed. A first rate recreation.
