THE FIELD OF BUTTERCUPS

Remember the woodcutter who tied his red handkerchief (or whatever) to a tree to mark the burial spot of a leprechaun's pot of gold? Well, young Michael O'Grady ties his red garter to a buttercup with the same results, and neither Alice Boden's flat, stamped-out pictures nor her fiat retelling (""Michael went off home. As he walked along he began to laugh. He laughed and laughed. It was a good trick that the leprechaun had played on him"") justify the appearance of this slight variation.
