A bit too metaphysical for an author who excells in homely stories of simple folk. The story of the influence a dead man exerts over those he has left behind. The stranger brought into the picture to write the dead man's biography unearths all sorts of facts about the dead man and his dominance of place and people, and decides that he cannot write the book he had planned. A strange story, which doesn't quite come off. Might interest those who liked A MAN NAMED LUKE, though inferior to it.
