An unconvincing story about a sweet young bit of femininity, a man of forty who marries her, but takes separate rooms and companionship as the goal for granted, and who when he suddenly wakes up to the existence of passion in himself -- cannot believe it can exist in a ""nice girl"". The hoped for bedroom scene is kept in the reader's mind as a bait, and the incredible tale is spun against a lovely country background of open fires, dogs, horses and Irish joviality.
